Towner Art Gallery

About

Visit three award winning galleries; Towner EastbourneDe La Warr Pavilion, and Hastings Contemporary across 18 miles of stunning East Sussex coastline. Each gallery has reopened this year with some amazing exhibitions, and are all part of a wider project spanning from Sussex to Kent; England's Creative Coast. This project includes new outdoor sculptures which you can see in the East Sussex arm along the Coastal Culture Trail within a weekend.

This trial is designed to link the three Sussex seaside towns of Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings. This trail is about 20+ miles of coastline from start to finish. It has been designed it for you to be able to travel by train, bus, walking or cycling. This particular trail is especially suited to cycling as much as the route is on promenades and paths separated from roads. This trail is suitable for families as it is entirely separated from traffic. All three towns are connected with good public transport networks.

Walking is a great way to experience the trail. The walk is traffic free with the exception of a small residential road in the village of Beachlands. It is recommended that the middle section of the Coastal Culture Trail walk between Cooden Beach and Pevensey Bay is taken at low tide (for the more inspiring views) as the sea path ends.

Another way to experience East Sussex is by bike. The coastal cycle route takes you all the way from Hastings Contemporary to Towner Gallery and is traffic free from Hastings to Bexhill. Cycling is such a great way of taking the trail but it is advised that the stretch between Bexhill and Eastbourne is only suitable for over 12’s.

All of this information and more is available in the Sussex Coastal Culture Trail Map & Guide. This map shows you ways to cycle and walk the trail as well as places of interest. It is avaliable to purchase at all three galleries.

The 3 galleries are connected with a regular train service that links Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne. The train travels along the coast and gives you fantastic views of the coast and the countryside.

For more information regarding the trail route, bike hire, and any other queries can be found on the website.
